Violence Prevention, Safety Symposium in Sparks Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

A personal protection training company will hold a free violence prevention and safety symposium in Sparks on Tuesday.

Apex SCF will host the event inside the Rose Ballroom of John Ascuaga's Nugget from 6pm to 8 pm.

A representative will discuss recognizing potential violent threats and telling people how to respond to dangerous situations. Discussion situations include parking areas, airports, shopping venues, schools and theaters.

Sparks Middle School teacher Eric Perez is scheduled to speak at the event.

"Bad things happen to good people; this is an unfortunate fact in our society. Any one of us can be a victim of a crime that threatens our personal safety or the safety of our families," says CEO Jeff May. "We cannot control the actions of others. But we don't have to remain powerless either. We can choose to step out of the victim loop and take personal responsiblity and accountability for our safety."

Seating is limited to 500 people and is open to the public on a first come basis. Teachers, students and parents in particular are strongly recommended to attend.
