A man suffered serious burns during an apartment fire in Fallon on Saturday night.

The Fallon Police Department and the Churchill County Volunteer Fire Department responded to an apartment complex at 250 S. East Street, just after 8 p.m. They found a fire in one of the apartments then evacuated the building. In all, three apartments were damaged and two families were displaced.

Witnesses reported seeing a man leaving the area during the fire. A short time later, a man with burns to his face and hands arrived at Banner Churchill Community Hospital.

The man told investigators that he was trying to relight a pilot light when an explosion happened.

He is being transported to a burn center for treatment.

Firefighters believe he was the only person in the apartment at the time.
