Looks like we have a wintry weekend on tap.  And while Christmas shopping may be on a lot of lists, cuddling up with a book should be too. Plus, there's some tree lightings, a parade and an entire Christmas Marketplace of gifts and products Made in Nevada. Enjoy!

Portola tree lighting and Christmas parade 6-9 pm

This annual holiday celebration rings in weeks of holiday fun in Portola, California. Tree lighting carolers and fireworks!

City of Sparks Tree Lighting 6:30-7 pm

The Sparks Hometowne Christmas celebration begins tonight with the lighting of the community Christmas tree. It happens between 6:30 and 7 and will light the way for tomorrow's parade!

Atlantis Turkey Drop sponsored by KOH 6 am-6 pm

This all day turkey drive is an annual event for the Atlantis Casino. They'll have folks in the west parking lot so you can just drive-by and drop off a turkey to help that in need this holiday season.

Breakfast with Santa, Boys & Girls Club, 7am

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is holding a 'Breakfast with Santa' event at 7am at its 2680 East 9th Street facility. Entry is $2 per person or $5 per family. Military members are free. Activities include photos with Santa, a buffet style breakfast and holiday music.

Local Authors at Sundance, 3pm

Sundance Books and Music has its own publishing company. And this Saturday they'll be showcasing those authors signing their books starting at 3 pm. Brian Crane of Pickles and Guy Clifton of the Reno Gazette-Journal will be there.

Sparks Hometowne Christmas parade & activities 10 am

The grand celebration in Sparks just wouldn't be what it is without the arrival of Santa and that always happens with a huge parade through the Rail City. Activities start at 10 a.m. with the parade at 1pm. From about 1ppm-3pm, teen Hannah Hoobyar will collect stuffed animals at a booth during the parade for the victims of the tornado in Illinois.

Reno Then and Now, Sundance Books
