Someone 2 Know: The Cancer Warrior Princess

Posted: Updated:

Emily Zimmerman is a bright-eyed girly-girl. She is a princess, which is why it is appropriate that her Facebook name have a royal flair. October of this year, her parents, Ken and Jenny, started the "Emily Zimmerman – The Cancer Warrior Princess" page so that friends and family can follow her treatment. The seven-year-old was diagnosed with brain cancer, after weeks of complaining of headaches. Doctors discovered a brain tumor and rushed her to Stanford for radiation, before an expected year of chemotherapy.

"She's tougher than her folks, for sure. She's not complaining," Ken shared.

Part of the reason for that is because of the love surrounding Emily and not just in Palo Alto. Back here at home, businesses are rallying for her recovery, too. Emily's mom works at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Financial Advisors and their colleagues came up with the idea to collect hats for the little girl. She just shaved her head for treatment after all. Branch Manager, David Lawrence said he was overwhelmed by his team's efforts. They hoped to collect 30 hats, one for every day of the month. Instead, they gathered more than 70! "Obviously, everyone here was devastated to hear the news, but it's just a testament to the spirit of the people here and in the community - that they rally behind her," said David. He dumped a huge bag of caps out for Ken to see. Some sparkle, others are homemade and all are fit for a sweet little girl. "Oh, this is perfect!" Ken said with a big smile on his face. "She's going to be so happy. I wish she was here right now."

Soon enough, Emily will see for herself that a lot of people are tipping their hats to her - for her courage; hoping for a speedy recovery and praying for strength as she continues her fight. "We feel it. We feel the positive energy and that alone is enough."

You can help the Zimmermans on Tuesday, December 10th when all four Squeeze In restaurants donated 10% of their sales to Emily's family.
