Heater Sales Heat Up as Temperatures Drop

Posted: Updated:

A drop in the mercury is fueling a lot of business for area hardware stores.

"Yesterday we had as much business as we did on Black Friday!," said Ron Marko with Ace Hardware on South Virginia Street in Reno.

From shovels to space heaters...things that had to do with the cold weather are flying out the door.

"We sold every shovel in stock," Marko says. "And that empty space on the floor there, that's where we had all the ice melt stacked. We sold out of that fast. We took a deliver on more shovels this (Wednesday) morning and we were literally putting them together and handing them to people who were standing here waiting this morning. More ice melt is coming in this afternoon."

And he says all the space heaters that sold out as the snow fell yesterday, have been restocked today.

"And we've really had a run on mousetraps! That was a little surprising but when it gets cold the mice are looking to stay warm too and they head inside, so it makes sense."
