Reno City Street Maintenance Working on Snowy Roads

Posted: Updated:

From the City of Reno:

Public Works street maintenance crews began working to curb icy-slippery conditions on  Reno streets at 3 a.m. this morning and will continue to work through the night. A second shift of workers will take over the operation at 3 p.m. this afternoon.

Maintenance and Operations Manager Marnell Heinz says, "We are putting a sand/salt mixture on the main arterial streets right now and any street that is a hot spot for problems. Workers can't plow until there is more than three inches of snow on the streets."

The City has 14 snow/sand plows for the 19 routes in the City. The maintenance staff work the main arterial streets and streets on school routes first before they plow or sand in residential neighborhoods.

Heinz says the maintenance crews will be brining the roads tonight to help curb icy conditions. Residents can find out more information on the City of Reno Snow and Ice Control Plan on Reno.gov. https://www.reno.gov/index.aspx?page=1237
