The Nevada Highway Patrol says its investigating an accident that killed a truck passenger on Interstate 80 near milemarker 269.

The accident happened Saturday just before 7am on Interstate 80 34 miles west of Elko.

Troopers say 39-year-old Cesar Octavio Zamayoa of Winnemucca was driving a 2001 black Ford F250 east when he came upon a slow moving 2005 blue Peterbilt truck pulling two trailers driven by 54-year-old Diana Kemper of Carlin.

Troopers say Zamayoa could not react in time and swerved to the left to avoid a collision, but then the truck's left side hit the rear of the slower truck's trailer.

Troopers say 50-year-old Aristeo Aguilar-Perez of Winnemucca was thrown from the passenger side of F250 and died on scene. He was not wearing his seatbelt.

Zamayoa suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to Northeastern Nevada Regional Medical Hospital in Elko.

Kemper was not hurt and her semi-truck's rear trailer received moderate damage.

Troopers say alcohol may be involved.
