The Washoe County Sheriff's Office donated $50,000 to a south Reno Walmart to help with their annual "Shop With the Sheriff" Event.
This year's shopping spree will take place a week from Tuesday.
It helps Washoe County children from low-income families buy toys for their parents and other family members.
"The joy, the spirit the excitement of Christmas should be an opportunity that everyone has in their lifetimes. And parents should not have to bear the burden if they can't of providing some joy for their kids."
The sheriff's office finds the children either when interacting with parents during their regular duties- or through outreach programs like The Children's Cabinet.
The children are allowed to spend up to $200 on clothes and toys for themselves as well as for members of their family. Every child also receives a $50 gift card to be used specifically for groceries for their families.
Sheriff Haley says the program is made possible by the Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Association.
