There are several places you can get a free Thanksgiving meal this week.
The Carson Nugget in Carson City is once again offering a free Thanksgiving meal on Thursday from 11am-1pm in the upstairs banquet room. The Nugget is located at 651 N. Stewart Street.
The Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission is holding its annual Thanksgiving dinner at 11am Thursday at the Mission at 355 Record Street in Reno. More than 600 men, women and children are expected to attend the event. Every attendee will be able to receive a free winter coat.
Evelyn Mount will hold her annual Thanksgiving meal on Thursday at the MccGregor Inn at noon at 1661 East Sixth Street in Reno.
And - John Ascuaga's Nugget and St. Vincent's Dining Room will hold its annual Thanksgiving meal at 11:30am at 325 Valley Road in Reno. About 1,300 people are expected to attend.
This marks the final year the Ascuaga family will host the meal. The family sold the casino-resort operation in October, but says the new owners of the Nugget also intend to continue the annual holiday meals. "We are so thrilled that the Ascuagas have chosen to continue this tradition, despite the change in leadership taking place at the casino," says Peter Vogel, Executive Director at Catholic Charities & the St. Vincent's Programs. "These meals are always so special to our clients who might otherwise go hungry on this holiday."
For those who attend, there are no questions asked and no requirements in order to receive a free Thanksgiving meal.
