A local casino is helping the area's homeless and low-income families enjoy Thanksgiving a little early.
Harrah's Reno will serve up free meals downtown, on the corner of 6th and Center Streets starting at 5:30pm, with families being seated first. They will continue serving until 8:30pm, or until all the mouths are fed.
The Holiday Outreach Dinner includes pork loin, mashed potatoes, green beans and pie.
Last year they fed around 1,300 people, and are expecting 1,500 this year.
"Harrah's employees always rally around this holiday event," says Janet Leis. "It's a chance to give back to the community and make a positive impact with so many people in need."
On Thanksgiving Day, Harrah's volunteers will assist The Salvation Army to feed people in need from 1pm-2pm at The Salvation Army Fellowship Hall at 1931 Sutro Street at the corner of Sutro and Oddie Blvd. Harrah's Reno will repeat this effort on Christmas Day from 12pm-3pm providing meals at The Salvation Army Fellowship Hall to the hungry and homeless.
