Outlets at Sparks Expanding Just in Time For Holiday Season

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, a local mall is expanding and adding some new stores. The Outlets at Sparks have added three new businesses in the past few weeks, and even more are in the works.

Three national chain stores set up shop -- VF Outlet, Famous Footwear and Lids, and officials say it's all to enhance the shopper's experience, especially for the holiday season.

"It just broadens what people can find here," said Catherine Oaks, Director of Marketing at the Outlets at Sparks. "It broadens the whole range of clothing and shoes that we didn't have before with a wide selection. It attracts a wider range of people, and it just makes the experience much more interesting."

The Outlets at Sparks now has the first VF Outlet in northern Nevada, which sells designer clothing at a discount.

"The staff is well-trained on the product," said Bobby Delicino, Assistant Manager of Operations with VF Outlet. "We can definitely give you guys some options. We do have some people who are fashion-oriented. They can kind of help tie in some stuff."

They're offering a "friends and family" discount this weekend, which is 20 percent off items in the store.

Meanwhile, Famous Footwear sells all kinds of shoes from sandals to boots. They're offering a ton of deals for its grand opening Saturday, especially one that's had a lot of interest from people.

"They're going to have a free shoes giveaway tomorrow to the first 100 people who come in," Oaks said.

Lids has all kinds of hats and specializes in custom embroidery, which managers say is a popular service at all of its stores.

"We can do any hat, even if you bring them in" said Andrew Lezalla, a store manager. "That's one thing we strive on is just customizing and making hats your own."

This weekend, they're offering Lids Club cards for free, which gives people discounts on their hat purchases in-store and online. They also have a buy one, get one half off deal that always brings in big business.

"It's extremely beneficial to the business," Lezalla said. "People who love hats always do it, and it's a very good deal."

Officials say these store openings will help the local economy.

"It brings in jobs," Oaks said. "All of our stores have created jobs. So obviously, we like that."

The Outlets at Sparks are also preparing for construction of a new Walmart. The Sparks Planning Commission approved the special-use permit Thursday, and it's set to be located off of Marina Gateway Drive.

They're also making plans for a new restaurant, but say it's not been finalized yet.
