Sparks Discusses Police Staffing, Considers Parks Plan

Posted: Updated:

The Sparks City Council discussed a study on police funding in the Rail City.

The study looked at staffing levels across the department.

While it found current staffing is adequate for the city's needs, the police department says more officers could be used to prevent crimes.

"A crime prevented is better than a crime solved so with additional resources we could put more additional officers and more directed patrol efforts to the areas the community feels are important to them," says Chief Brian Allen.

Chief Allen they've been able to reduce major crimes like homicides and assaults 35% over the past four years in Sparks.

Meanwhile, the City of Sparks also considered a comprehensive plan for the future of parks in the Rail City.

The plan will look at a variety of issues surrounding parks in Sparks, what types to build in the future, and how to pay for services.

We'll have more on both the parks plan and police staffing levels in sparks tonight on Channel 2 News at 11pm.
