One killed in Structure Fire on Nichols Boulevard

Posted: Updated:

The Sparks Fire Department reports that one person has passed away after a structure fire early this morning.

Just after 1 a.m. Sparks Firefighters received reports of an electrical fire at 200 Nichols Boulevard. When a crew arrived on scene, there was no visible smoke or fire, but say it smelled like an electrical fire. After checking several apartments in the area, they found one with signs of smoke staining on a window. When firefighters knocked on the door, there was no response, so they forced their way in.

Inside the apartment, firefighters found a room full of smoke, but no active fires. The bed and a trash can appeared to have been lit on fire at some point, and were smoldering. After a search of the apartment, firefighters found a non-responsive resident in the bathroom. The resident was transported to Northern Nevada Medical Center before being pronounced dead at the hospital.

Fire officials say the fire is still under investigation.
