ACA's Delay Could Have an Impact in Nevada

Posted: Updated:

The delay in implementing the Affordable Care Act will have some impacts for the state of Nevada. And brokers like Jacob Young with Health Benefits Associates, Inc. on Lakeside Drive in Reno are feeling the crunch.

"I have gotten a lot of calls from people with questions that I just don't have the answers for," he says. "It's hard when things keep changing."

But he says he wasn't surprised with the delay.

"The insurance companies saw problems coming," he says. "And about a year ago they side- stepped some problems by offering early renewals on policies. By renewing early the policies were grandfathered in through 2014. So the president announcing a year's delay was something we already knew."

Young says he's also hearing from a lot of folks who want catastrophic care policies.

"This is the time to get and renew those. They won't be offered under the Affordable Care Act," Young says. "But those in place will be good for at least another year. And who knows if we'll see another delay?"

Nevada's insurance commissioner is still weighing the ramifications of the delay on Nevada. but calls to his office Friday have gone unreturned.
