Historic Promotion for Nevada Air Guardsman

Posted: Updated:

A Nevada Air National Guardsman was recognized Friday as the first African-American in state history to reach the rank of general.

Ondra Berry was promoted from Colonel to Brigadier General and is now the Assistant Adjutant General of the Nevada Air Guard.

Berry says his promotion is a reflection of the strength the air guard has across the world.

"It's a continuation of showing that the Air National Guard is in the forefront of not just diversity and leadership but how it takes care of its airmen how it takes care of its people."

He's been in with the Nevada Air National Guard since 1986.

Dozens of friends and family cam out to watch him be promoted.
