Reno's Wood-Fire Roasted Coffee Finalist for National Award

Posted: Updated:

Reno's own Wood-Fire Roasted Coffee has been named a finalist for a national award, but it needs your vote to win!

The company says its one of 25 finalists nationwide up for United We Stand's 'Indie Award.' The award recognizes independent businesses that support local commerce and communities.

Owner/Roaster Tim Curry, says "90 percent of my business is in the Reno market. We do what we can to keep money circulating through the local economy. We support local businesses as much as we can, and we keep our buying local."

He provides coffee, monetary donations, and labor donations to local charities, including:

Washoe County 4-H Youth Development Programs - Tim sponsors an annual camp scholarship for a child who would otherwise not be able to attend camp.

Veterans Guest House - Tim contributes coffee and helps with guests at this "home away from home" for U.S. military service veterans who receive medical treatment in the Reno/Sparks area.

Eddie House - This facility helps young adults from the foster system transition to independent living. Affiliated restaurant Z Pie provides work experience and funding for the house. Tim, a long-time restauranteur, donates "an endless supply of coffee" to the house and the restaurant and contributes to the group's annual fundraiser.

You can vote online for them until December 1 at www.independentwestand.org/indies/profile.php?id=393

Indie Award winners will receive prizes including business services and a $5,000 American Express Gift Card. Tim's plans for the winnings: "To expand our product line into related brewing accessories and to spread love of wood-fired coffee."

The Indie Award was created in 2011.
