Wolf Pack Softball Signs Five

Nevada Release

Nevada softball coach Matt Meuchel announced on Wednesday the signing of five players who will join the Wolf Pack next fall. The class consists entirely of high school players from four different states, including local product Jennifer Purcell of Carson City.

The class of 2014 is: Outfielder Aaliyah Gibson from Westlake High School in Austin, Texas; Corner infielder Alyssa Mendez from Chino Hills (Calif.) High School; Catcher Amanda Nicholas from Sahuaro High School in Tucson, Ariz.; Jennifer from Carson High School; Pitcher Chase Redington from Roosevelt High School in Corona, Calif.

"We are excited about the quality and the depth of our 2014 class," Meuchel said. "We have several seniors to replace at the end of the season and we feel this class addressed many of the needs that we will have with their departure. We were able to address almost every positional area in signing a pitcher, catcher, infielder, outfielder, and someone who can play all three. Even more than that, we are excited about the athleticism that each bring allowing us to play them in multiple positions if needed. This class has a real opportunity to do great things in their tenure at Nevada and we look for them to compete to win Mountain West Championships every season with the Pack."

"Jennifer is someone who has grown up in the program and it is great to see her Nevada dreams coming true. She will bring some unique skill sets to the Pack as a left handed power bat and a left handed defender that can play the outfield, first base and catch. Jenn has the ability to be a big bat in our lineup from her first day on campus."
