From The Boy Scouts of the Pinenut District:
The Pinenut District announces its annual ‘Good Turn for America Scouting for Food Drive' Saturday, November 16, 2013. All the collected food will be delivered to each community's food pantry. Individuals and families wishing to donate food should have their non-perishable food products in a plastic sack on their doorsteps for pickup by 9:00 A.M.
"Our goal is to flood the food pantries with an abundance of food", says John Domina, Pinenut District Civic Services and Activities Chairman. The Pinenut District is a service area of the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The food drive will include the communities of Carson City, Dayton, Gardnerville/Minden, and South Lake Tahoe.
"An estimated 400 Scouters comprising Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and adult leaders of the District will distribute 16,000 flyers announcing the food drive", says Domina. The flyers will be distributed to area homes between Saturday November 9 and Wednesday November 13. The same dedicated group of youth and volunteers will also collect donations from the doorsteps of homes.
Youth and volunteers participating in the food drive will be wearing their official Scout uniform. Community members who have questions regarding the event or businesses wishing to contribute can reach the District office at (775) 884-0838. Mike Rowe, Pinenut District Chairman, urges friends and neighbors to help provide the opportunity for a hearty holiday festival for each of our community families by making a generous contribution this year.
