NDOW Captures and Releases Two Black Bears

Posted: Updated:

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has captured and released two more black bears foraging for food near residential areas this weekend.

On Friday, November 8th, NDOW workers captured a female black bear in West Carson City. They say West Carson has been a particularly popular area for bears this fall.

The second bear was caught on Saturday. The 400 pound male bear was captured in the Verdi area.

Both of the bears had been caught by NDOW workers once before, and both were safely released back into the woods and given aversive conditioning treatment to discourage them from coming back into the residential areas.

NDOW says that bears usually aren't as active in November as they are in October, but are asking everyone to stay alert. If you see a bear, you're asked to report it to their bear hotline at (775) 688-BEAR (2327)
