Posted: Updated:

From the City of Reno:

Next week, the Reno Police Department along with members from law enforcement, education, and the community will partner together for a symposium focused on communication, rapport building, and collaboration to find solutions to community problems and build on cultural awareness.

The symposium, named E.C.C.A. (Embracing, Community Cultural Awareness), will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at The Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows (2680 East Ninth Street). E.C.C.A strives to enhance community unity, involvement, and to help alleviate biases and stereotypes by engaging in communication through public forums.

The schedule will be as follows:
Law Enforcement – 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Education – 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Community – 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Participants from law enforcement will include the Reno Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Washoe County School District Police Department, and the Sparks Police Department. The Washoe County School District and the University of Nevada, Reno will also participate from the education community along with community members, clergyman and clinical professionals.

"The symposium grew from the Reno Police Department's faith-based leadership initiative," advised Reno Police Chief Steve Pitts. "The initiative focuses on developing a network, from various faiths, that does not focus on religion, but rather works together to solve various problems and challenges within our community. We are very fortunate to have a great group of dedicated community ministers focused on working with us in law enforcement to improve our community."
