University Welcomes Electric Cars With New Charging Stations

Posted: Updated:

The University of Nevada is running just a little bit greener, thanks to a new installation.

University officials unveiled two new electric vehicle charging stations on the campus Thursday afternoon.

University officials say the stations are part of an effort to make the school more environmentally friendly.

"The university and NV Energy partnered to bring electric vehicle stations to campus, and you know we already have biking and bussing and carpooling, and we thought this is just another great fit for the university," says Michelle Horton, parking and transportation services assistant director.

The two Verdek ChargePoint Stations are found in the Brian J. Whalen and West Stadium Parking complexes on campus. Parking Services will pick up the cost of the electric consumption from the stations.

The stations are free, but to use them, you need to have a campus parking pass and have an account with Verdek. To do that, just go to www.chargepoint.com
