Posted: Updated:

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed during an officer-involved shooting in Humboldt County late last month.

Deputies say 46-year-old John Robert Dellafiora of Gilboa, New York was killed during the confrontation on I-80 east of Winnemucca near Golconda October 24th.

Detectives with the Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Winnemucca Police Department say they made a traffic stop at mile marker 222 when the driver fled the scene. Deputies from Humboldt and Lander Counties also responded to the traffic stop.

Deputies say authorities pursued Dellafiora west on I-80 until he exited the highway near the Golconda area. They say when he got out, he fired several rounds at the officers, hitting two patrol cars. Shrapnel also injured a K9 inside a kennel in one of the vehicles.

Deputies say law enforcement returned fire killing the driver. No officers were hurt. The K9 was treated at an animal hospital and released.

Deputies say the investigation remains ongoing, and once completed the findings will be sent to the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office.
