From Home Instead Senior Care Agencies:
Home Instead Senior Care Agencies throughout the United States and Canada sponsor the Be a Santa to a Senior program each year. We are in our 8th year here in Reno and last year, with the help of our community, we were able to bring 1,937 seniors Christmas they might otherwise have missed out on. Many of these seniors are veterans and it's important that we remember them this holiday season.
The trees go up in the Vision Centers at every WalMart in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville. Each tree is covered in gift request ornaments. Each ornament represents the wishes of a senior in need this holiday season.
The trees are going up this week and will come down on Dec. 11th. The final gifts will be picked up on December 13th so we can get them to the wrapping party, which will be on Saturday, December 14th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Washoe County Senior Center (on the corner of Ninth and Sutro.) There, all the gifts will be wrapped by member of our community and then transported back to the organizations that were responsible for getting the gift requests to us, so they can be delivered to each recipient.
December 15th, there will be a Santa Convoy that will deliver gifts to some of our seniors.
On December 19th, the annual Be a Santa to a Senior, Christmas Party for the Veterans living at the Veteran's Hospital Community Living Center, will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Many of the volunteers from the local senior healthcare community will be there to share time, gifts, holiday cheer, and love with the Veterans. We will have music, food, and gifts for every Veterans.
