One local girl turned 9 years old this Monday, but instead of asking for birthday presents, she asked her friends and family to help some animals in need instead.
"We got ready and we came over and loaded the food up and we counted the pounds and we got over 700 pounds."
Thursday, Saylor Linnell and her friends and family gave that 700 pounds of pet food to the Nevada Humane Society, so that it could be used to feed homeless animals in their shelter.
The humane shelter says they were honored by Saylor's donation.
"Nothing can be compared to that, nothing can be compared to a child donating their birthday gifts, raising money raising food for the animals, so its such a great feeling and we're so honored and so thrilled to have her as a part of our community," says Kimberly Chandler.
Saylor says she has two dogs at home, and chose to give her birthday to pets in need because she loves animals.
