Deputies Identify Remains Found in Lassen County Forest

Posted: Updated:

Deputies with the Lassen County Sheriff's Office are trying to find out how the remains of a missing man ended up in a California forest.

Deputies say two hunters were hiking in the southern area of Lassen County near Doyle when they came across a human skull.

When deputies got on scene, they found several more bones scattered throughout the same area.

Deputies, along with the FBI, have spent several days combing through the area and can now confirm the identity of the man as 57-year-old Edgardo Carrera. Deputies say he went missing in September of 2012.

They are currently figuring out how he ended up in the woods and have not yet ruled out foul play.
