Despite Issues, People Logging Onto Nevada's Health Site

Posted: Updated:

Nevada has had its challenges with getting the state health insurance website launched, just like the national website. But officials tell us that with time they are ironing out the system and it all seems to be working as planned.

"Sure we had a bottleneck at the beginning and we had a few rough spots but we've smoothed things out and things are working well," says C.J. Bawden with the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange.

And he says the numbers show it's working. He reports that more than 53,000 accounts have been set up and that 11,000 are in the process of selecting plans.

The most common problems have been with navigation. He says they are logging those issues and shutting the system down two nights a week to fix them. And he says if you are having problems you may need to clear your cache and cookies on that page so that the fixes can load properly.

The other issue has been sticker shock over the prices. While a few have reported saving money most are concerned about the increase.

"The mandated plans cover a lot more than the old plans did. They all include maternity care and pediatric dentistry. Whether you want those or not you are paying for them. That's the way the law was set up to include them. And to cover the cost insurance companies are charging more," Bawden says.

He adds that there are subsidies. And anyone making between $16,000 and $46,000 a year is eligible for them. You can compare plan at www.Nevadahealthlink.com
