Zombies Help Fuel Downtown Business

Posted: Updated:

The zombie invasion in downtown Reno last night was a record-breaker. And local bars and restaurants were happy to see everyone one of the undead.

Ed Adkins who organizes the event every year estimates as many as 20-thousand zombies took part this year.

"And the crowd hit later this year than last which may have been because of the UNR-UNLV  game," Adkins says. "Last year the big crowd was about 9 p.m. this year it didn't hit til about 11:00."

Junkee Clothing in Midtown Reno sold 3-thousand cups for the crawl and reports heavy business from costume-hunters. Officials also say expanding the crawl to a zombie day helped. This year they had a 5K No Brainer Run Saturday morning. an al-ages friendly mass "Thriller" dance under the Arch and then the Zombie Crawl.

And a portion of the proceeds goes to a local charity called Future Kind.
