Carson City Man Sentenced to Prison for Child Neglect

Posted: Updated:

A man in Carson City has been sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison after being convicted of child neglect with substantial bodily harm.

Prosecutors say this case dates back all the way to 2010 when Justin Carrigan was the sole caregiver of a three-year-old girl.

Carrigan prevented the girl from breathing somehow - and then refused to call 911.

Because of this, the child suffered irreversible brain damage from a lack of oxygen after her heart stopped.

Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo says the child is in a 24-hour care facility where she is showing improvements, but he says her life will never be the same.
