Two local tattoo artists are helping some of the community heal with art after Monday's deadly shooting at Sparks Middle School.
Anthony Medellin and Alex Blackwell teach art classes at various elementary schools throughout the year. On Wednesday the duo visited Mrs. Sewell's class at Mamie Towels Elementary – and brought cards for the children to sign to give to the injured victims in Monday's shooting.
"Growing up I learned to channel my emotions through my art. I hope to teach these kids to do the same. When you think nobody is listening, your sketchbook is an open ear," says Medellin.
Police say 45-year-old math teacher Michael Landsberry was killed when he tried to intervene in the 7:1am incident. Landsberry, along with the 12-year-old shooter died at the scene.
Two other boys were hurt and are recovering at Renown Medical Center.
Medellin and Blackwell both work at Nightmare Studios.
