Local Speaker Spreads Message of Kindness

Posted: Updated:

In light of Monday's tragic shooting- simple acts of kindness are as important as ever, and the founder of Think Kindness is spreading a message of tolerance.

"In a round-a-bout way we're able to combat bullying issues without ever mentioning the word bullying and focusing on the coolest part - being nice to one another."

Tuesday morning the kids at Hunsberger Elementary in south Reno found out exactly how they can make a difference.

You may remember "Think Kindness" founder Brian Williams who we've profiled before as a Someone 2 Know. This year, he's asking students to collect and bring in gently used shoes.

Tuesday Williams showed students pictures and told them about his visits to Africa where many can't attend school because they have no shoes to wear.

He challenged them to be the kindest school in Nevada which he says students embrace fully.

"It creates an energy that words can't describe. Bullying instances stop. Bullies start wanting the attention, but now they're getting attention for being nice to one another."

Later this week Williams is taking his message across the nation. He'll speak in Connecticut on Thursday.
