"No words from a mayor can make them feel at peace today but they should know they are in our minds and hearts."

Tuesday morning Sparks Mayor Geno Martini used words of compassion to try and heal a heartbroken community.

"Goodness and love will trump these terrible events that much of you will never forget."

A memorial is growing outside Sparks Middle School as students and staff lay flowers to remember their fallen hero, Michael Landsberry, who was shot in the chest Monday by a 12-year-old student. Two other students were injured in the early morning shooting that happened on school grounds.

To help the community heal, several vigils, community prayers and fundraisers are being held in the coming week.

Sparks Christian Fellowship is holding a service called 'Dealing with Tragedy and Where God Is In the Midst of it' at its 510 Greenbrae Drive location Sunday at 9am and 11am. The church will also accept donations for the victims' families.

An all-ages Hip Hop Halloween fundraiser party will be held Friday at Candela Nightclub at 1126 E. 4th Street in Reno. Proceeds benefit the victims of the shooting. Tickets are $10 without a costume and $5 with a costume. It's all-ages until 11pm, then 18+ after 11pm.

A fundraiser for Landsberry will be at Dad's Quick Mart at 5212 Sparks Blvd. Saturday at 10am. There will be a bake sale, car wash and a $5 raffle for $100 worth of gas. Proceeds will benefit the Compassion Fund.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled Sunday, November 3rd for Master Sgt. Landsberry, who was a member of the Nevada Air Guard and a Marine. It will take place at 3pm inside Sparks Christian Fellowship located at 510 Greenbrae Avenue.
During the Celebration of Life, Landsberry's casket will be present and he will receive full military honors including an honor guard 21-gun salute and the presentation of national colors to his family. Family and officials including Gov. Brian Sandoval are set to provide remarks during the Celebration of Life.
A public viewing will take place the day before from 9am to 6pm at Walton's Funeral Home located at 1745 Sullivan Lane.
