Community Support for Those Affected by Sparks Middle School Shooting

Many people have been affected by Monday's shooting at Sparks Middle School as the community continues to show support during this tragic time.

A number of people began leaving flowers in front of the school's sign to pay respects to Mr Michael Landsberry.

Dozens attended a vigil at the Saint Paul's Episcopal church in Sparks, to remember the 8th grade math teacher and soccer coach.

"I was just here to support my friends and to come pay my condolences for him" said Marissa Marchut, one of Mr. Landsberry's former students.

People had a chance to talk to other about the shooting at Monday night's vigil.

"Tonight was an opportunity for people to come together and to see that they weren't alone in this and to be able to cry and to reach out to people." said Priest Kirk Woodliff. 

Students say Mr. Landsberry made an impact on a lot of lives.

"He was honestly like a second dad to me when I went there." said Marchut sobbing, "He cared so much about the students."

"He said I would help you guys. I would do anything for you guys, and I guess that means taking a bullet. And he did." said Kasandra Kirk through her tears.

There will be another vigil Wednesday night in front of Sparks Middle School. That begins at 7 p.m. and will feature an honor guard with the Patriot Guard and different veteran groups.

The Sparks Nazarene Church will be holding a community prayer night. That is Thursday night, for anyone who would like to attend. That begins at 6:30 p.m. at 2200 El Rancho Drive.

    The list of legal problems for the Washoe School District grew this morning as the State Attorney General's Office filed six counts each against the six trustees involved in the Pedro Martinez suit. But The School Board's outside counsel says he began working on settlement in that matter since last Wednesday and able to file it immediately.
