Fundraiser Saturday for Sparks Middle School Teacher

Posted: Updated:

A fundraiser will be held this Saturday for the math teacher killed early Monday morning at Sparks Middle School.

The fundraiser for Michael Landsberry will be at Dad's Quick Mart at 5212 Sparks Blvd. Saturday at 10am. There will be a bake sale, car wash and a $5 raffle for $100 worth of gas.

Police say the staff member tried to intervene when he was shot around 7:15am Monday outside the school. Police say he and the alleged shooter, a 13-year-old Hispanic boy, died at the scene.

Chanda Landsberry tells the Associated Press she's not surprised at all that her brother-in-law stepped in to stop the rampage. 45-year-old Landsberry, a member of the Nevada National Guard, leaves behind a wife and two stepdaughters.

Police call Landsberry a hero. "Because of his courage. I'll leave it at that for now but he had some courage," says Deputy Chief Tom Robinson of the Reno Police Department.
