3 Arrested Mid-Burglary in Douglas County

Posted: Updated:

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports that three people have been placed under arrest after they were caught in the middle of a home burglary.

Officials say that the DCSO, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department worked together to identify and disrupt a residential burglary in progress in the Valley Crest Estates residential neighborhood, located in North Douglas County.

The three suspects were still in the process of burglarizing the residence when investigators and officers arrived and placed them under arrest. They have been identified as 44-year-old Jeffrey Lee Stephens, 45-year-old Jean Rene Winters and 48-year-old Joseph Alan Winters. All three live in South Lake Tahoe.

Investigators say that the three suspects may be linked to several other residential burglaries throughout the region, and are asking anyone who has seen or spoken with the suspects or seen their white 2000 Ford Explorer in their neighborhood call and report it to (775) 782-9905.
