A few years ago, Trevor DeRuise found out his constant sickness was due to a gluten intolerance. This professional mountain biker suddenly had to change the way he ate. And to stay competitive out on the trails, he created his own Get Real Nutrition Company. "All gluten free. We're even going down a grain free path as well."

As Trevor grew his company, he realized he wanted to use some of the profits to give back to the community. Two years ago, he created the junior cycling team. He says it's Reno and Tahoe's first and only junior mountain biking program. At the beginning, 5 kids showed up. Now there's close to 30."

And they love it. Auvrey Milmer is just 13 years old. "If I didn't start this my life would probably be boring."

Ian Meintjes was the second kid to sign up for the team. "Every Monday we have a crazy strenuous workout so it keeps you in shape and it's just a fun group to hang out with."

Trevor mentors these middle and high school kids just like his mentors helped him get his professional mountain biking career off the ground. He wants to get kids excited about cycling and having fun on the back of a mountain bike. "It's an opportunity for all the kids and myself included to give back to the community and to spread the word even more about cycling and to get even more kids excited about riding bikes."

You can purchase Get Real products at www.getrealco.com or at High Sierra Cyclery on Steamboat Parkway near RC Willey.

This Sunday, October 20th, Trevor is hosting his second annual Free Community/Youth Cycling Clinic at Hidden Valley Park from 10am to 2pm. It's free but you do need to register. To do that, go to www.getrealco.com
