Thursday was a very big milestone for our local public television station in northern Nevada.
KNPB Channel 5 turned 30 years old. And to celebrate, station officials, the PBS CEO and even Governor Brian Sandoval gathered at the Silver Legacy in downtown Reno.
"When I look at our stations across the country there are a handful of stations that are truly extraordinary I would say almost legendary and KNPB happens to be one of those," says Paula Kerger.
"They raise a community and that's the importance of it, how genuine their programming is history of our country. Gives us a lot of variety for kids for adults, quality news," says Governor Sandoval.
KNPB has been on the air since 1982. One of the first things it ever aired in northern Nevada was Sesame Street.
