A team of culinary experts visited the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology's Culinary Arts program in Reno Wednesday to see if it could join an elite group of schools.
If the school is granted accreditation by the American Culinary Federation it will join only twelve high schools in the western U.S. with that distinction.
In the program-students learn not only how to cook and bake, but also how to act professionally and proper food safety which helps them move up quickly in the culinary arts.
"Our kids find that they're able to move up the chain of command a little faster with the experience that they have received," says Fred Wright.
The decision on whether to award the school accreditation will be made in January.
