Today is International Walk to School Day - and Washoe County School District students joined communities from 40 countries in learning about a more active lifestyle.
The rain didn't stop students from Mount Rose Elementary School from walking Wednesday.
The district says participating in the day can help build healthy habits.
"When we celebrate it, we find many families not only walk to school today but throughout the year weather permitting, so when the district promotes health we see families respond," says WCSD Superintendent Pedro Martinez.
School safety officials say when students and parents choose a spot near campus where students can walk to, that cuts down on traffic congestion around schools and helps improve air quality.
Safety officials also want to warn drivers to watch out for children around schools.
