Spanish Springs High School students have learned their school is one of five national finalists in a Katy Perry music video contest.

Last month, Perry challenged high schools nationwide to remake her music video 'Roar' while on national television. SSHS took the challenge and here is a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5pnOHxCytY

"We are so proud of our students and our school community coming together to make this a reality for Spanish Springs High School," says principal Tasha Fuson. "We are excited to be part of this national competition."

Broadcast journalism teacher Mike Bowers adds, "Teachers know that to get students to buy into school and graduate, the kids have to feel connected to the school. Even if we don't win the grand prize, this event has unified our school and have given us a special memento we can watch over and over throughout the years."

Fuson adds, "I just want people to know that SSHS is a close-knit family. We celebrate all of our students and their contributions to our school. We have a lot of pride in our school, and we are happy to showcase that pride in front of the whole country."

Perry will decide the winner herself. If Spanish Springs wins, Katy Perry will throw a free concert at the school on October 25th.

The winning school will be announced on October 18th.

"I was so impressed with the video and the hours of hard work Spanish Springs students put into it," First Lady Kathleen Sandoval said. "Through the use of music and dance, the video brings to light the struggles that every teenager faces. I congratulate the students of Spanish Springs High School for shining a light on these issues and I wish them the very best as the competition continues."
