RTC Seeks Input on Pyramid Way/Hwy 395 Connection

Posted: Updated:

From the Regional Transportation Commission:

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC), in cooperation with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) addressing the potential impacts of the Pyramid Highway/US 395 Connection Project. Proposed improvements include providing a limited access freeway facility within the Pyramid Corridor from either Disc Drive or Sparks Blvd. to just north of Eagle Canyon Road along one of three alternative alignments; and providing a limited access freeway connector facility from Pyramid Highway to US 395 along one of two alternative alignments. The proposed connector facility would provide connections in the area of Pyramid Highway/Disc Drive to the east and US 395/Parr Blvd. to the west, with potential access to the connector to/from the Sun Valley area at either Sun Valley Blvd. or to the west in the area of the planned future West Sun Valley arterial roadway.

The RTC will hold public hearings on Wednesday, Oct. 9th and Thursday, Oct. 10th, to present the DEIS at Truckee Meadows Community College, Red Mountain Building Student Center and Shaw Middle School Library in Sparks, respectively. The hours for both hearings are 4:30 – 7:30 pm with a presentation scheduled at 5:30 pm. The purpose of the hearing is to present the alternatives and environmental impacts described in the DEIS and obtain public input to help guide the selection of a preferred alternative. After public input is considered, FHWA will identify a preferred alternative and issue a Final Environmental Impact Statement. Project representatives will be on hand to discuss the project and answer questions during the hearing. Each hearing will include a brief presentation about the project at 5:30 p.m.

The public will have an opportunity to submit comments in writing at the hearings or in person to a court reporter who will be available throughout the meetings. In addition to any comments received at the hearings, written comments also will be accepted until Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, via email to info@dot.state.nv.us or by U.S. mail to Steve Cooke, Environmental Services Chief, NDOT, 1263 S. Stewart Street, Carson City, NV 89712. All comments must be received by Nov. 12, 2013 to be considered as part of the official project record. Spanish language translators will be available at the hearings.
