A community organization comprised of firefighters' families is holding a fundraiser BBQ this weekend in Carson City.
The Northern Nevada Fire Wives BBQ is this Saturday from 11-2pm at Carson City Fire Station 51 at 777 South Stewart Street in Carson City.
A hamburger meal costs $5; raffle tickets are $1 each.
The BBQ will have a bounce house, a tour of Warren Engine Co. No. 1 museum, face painting and other family-friendly activities, including an appearance by Smokey the Bear!
The non-profit was organized earlier this year through the efforts of Renee Pedrini and other local firefighter wives, to assist career, volunteer and seasonal firefighters and their families following an incident in which a firefighter friend of her husband's was seriously injured, and four other firefighters died during a 5-alarm motel blaze in Houston.
All proceeds benefit the Northern Nevada Fire Wives organization.
The Northern Nevada Fire Wives will also hold a Fire Wives Turkey Trot in conjunction with KAIA Fire on Thanksgiving morning. Registration for the 5K run is $30 for adults, $25 for those 18 and younger. You can register online at Facebook, or 5-7pm on November 26th at State Farm Insurance at 810 North Nevada Street in Carson City.
Membership in the Northern Nevada Fire Wives is open to the public with annual dues at $15.
