Nevada National Guard Recalls Furloughed Employees

Posted: Updated:

From the Nevada National Guard:

Over 500 Nevada National Guard federal technicians statewide are set to return to work tomorrow after being furloughed last week due to a partial government shutdown. Normal operations and support activities will resume with no impact on the Guard's ability to respond to federal contingencies or state and local emergencies. The shutdown's effect on the Guard has been largely transparent to the majority of Nevada's citizens.

A reduced operating capability has been sustained by the Nevada Guard's full-time Active Guard and Reserve staff of about 400 Soldiers and Airmen during the furlough period. The Active Guard and Reserve staff had maintained regular business hours for all Nevada Guard offices and armories attending to administrative functions.

The Nevada National Guard's federal technician work force includes both military and civilian technicians who perform many support roles including personnel, finance, administration and maintenance functions. The government shutdown and furlough made it necessary to postpone last weekend's scheduled drill that normally has about 4,400 Nevada Guardsmen training for their wartime and domestic support missions.

The Nevada National Guard includes more than 3,200 Soldiers and 1,150 Airmen. The Nevada National Guard is one of the largest employers in the state. Its payroll expenditures for 2012 added up to more than $105 million.
