Sue Lowden Announces Bid for Lieutenant Governor

Posted: Updated:

Nevada's next general election is 13 months away and the candidates are revving up their campaign machines. Republican Sue Lowden has tossed her had into the ring to run for Lieutenant Governor. She served in the state Senate from 1993-1997. And she was last in the political spotlight running for the U.S. Senate in 2010 against Sharron Angle.

"I am uniquely qualified for this job!" she said during a campaign swing through Northern Nevada this week. "I have a solid background in tourism and I am a businesswoman. Not only that I have served in the State Senate and understand how it works, I feel like this is more of an interview for a job rather than a race against another candidate."

The other declared opponent in the race is State Senator Mark Hutchison. He fought heartily against the proposed margins tax in the last session of the state legislature and says he'll continue that fight. Hutchison also represented the state pro-bono in it's case against the Affordable Care Act.

No Democrats have officially filed, however, two from Southern Nevada have expressed interest. They are Assemblywoman Lucy Flores and Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins.

The election is set for NOvember 4th, 2014
