Interest High for Nevada Insurance Exchange

Posted: Updated:

Officials say interest in Nevada's health insurance exchange exceeded expectations on its opening day.

A day after the launch of Nevada Health Link, officials with the state's online insurance market say many of the kinks that slowed the website on Tuesday have been resolved. "First of all we were a little late on that start. It was set for 8 a.m. and we didn't actually go on line until 8:17 a.m. But we had some 9,000 people waiting when we did open. And while we did have a few glitches it went well for a roll-out of this magnitude," says C. J. Bawden with Nevada Health Link.

As of midday Wednesday, more than 42,000 unique users have visited the site, with more than 4,000 people creating accounts to access available health insurance policies.

The online exchange is part of federal the health care reform law that requires everyone to have health insurance beginning in 2014.

Nevadans can also contact Nevada Health Link by phone. With a phone bank of 60 set up in Las Vegas, they can do the application online and set up appointments for process with someone in person. Find more information at (855) 768-5465.

If you want health coverage to begin in January you have to be signed up by December 15th. But the open enrollment runs through March.
