Washoe County Sheriff Deputy Victim of Fatal Motorcycle Accident

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its deputies after he was killed in an accident Friday afternoon. The Nevada Highway Patrol says Deputy David Hanks lost his life after a head-on-collision accident at Virginia Street and Holcomb Ranch Lane Friday afternoon.  

According to troopers, the 37-year-old deputy was riding his motorcycle south along Virginia Street just before 2 p.m. A white Chevrolet van traveling the other direction and tried to make a left-hand turn onto Holcomb Ranch Lane.

The two collided, head-to-head, and Hanks was ejected from his bike, striking the van. He was taken to the hospital but unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the van, 29-year-old Michael Johnson was not injured.
