Street Vibrations Rumbles Through Reno and Sparks

Posted: Updated:

The sound of rumbling motorcycles are starting to fill the streets of Reno, Sparks, Virginia and Carson Cities.

The Street Vibrations Fall Rally will be in town through Sunday. Organizers expect more than 30,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to visit the area this year.

With so many people expected downtown, there will be about five times more police officers than normal. "A lot of officers volunteer to work the overtime. We have great community partnerships with all the casinos and their security staff. They help us out, creating even a bigger team for the police department to provide public safety to everybody coming out, enjoying this event," says Sgt. Joe Robinson.

They say the goal is to keep the peace especially between outlaw motorcycle clubs. They're hoping to avoid incidents like the deadly shootout between two rival clubs at John Ascuaga's Nugget two years ago.

The large amount of motorcyclists coming into northern Nevada also means more traffic on our roads. They say it's important for drivers to check their blind spots and avoid distractions like cell phones and GPS's.

In downtown Reno, Virginia Street will remain closed until Sunday 9pm.
