Spooky 5k Run to Help Area Women, Children

Posted: Updated:

You can run from zombies through a fun spooky course – and help area women at the same time!

Step2 is a substance abuse treatment program that helps women and their children.

Step2 affords women the tools necessary to rebuild their lives.

While attending classes, women and their families are given the opportunity to live in furnished homes. And once they graduate from the program, they can take the items with them.

So, Step2 relies largely on donations, which is why it's organizing its first ever 5k run to raise thousands of dollars.

"It'll help provide a lot of diapers, food and child care, which is so badly needed for families. But it will also help provide transitional housing for the majority of the women who come through our program and live on the Lighthouse campus," says Diax Dixon.

The run is called, "The Running Dead" - and make-up and costumes are encouraged.

You'll be running from zombies - trying to grab your flags - through a spooky, 5k obstacle course at Rancho San Rafael Park.

The goal? To juke and jive and get away from them - and cross the finish line with at least one flag left.

There are still a limited number of spots left - if you want to be a zombie.

The entry fee for the October 26th morning event is $40. To buy tickets, go to http://www.step2reno.org/
