Three Arrested in Used Cooking Oil Theft

Posted: Updated:

Police report that three men have been placed under arrest for organizing a theft ring that stole thousands of gallons of used cooking oil, or yellow grease, from recycling containers throughout Reno.

According to police, the thieves had been stealing the oil over several months from many different restaurants. The containers were locked and belonged to a local rendering company which uses the recycled yellow grease.

Police began an investigation into the thefts in early September, which led them to a local holding facility where the three had been storing the stolen oil. Police say the thieves sold the oil to a bio diesel company and shipped it over state lines.

On September 18th, police placed three suspects under arrest for the theft and sale of the oil. The suspects have been identified as 28-year-old Frank Bobadilla-Comacho, 25-year-old Alberto Camacho, and 44-year-old Oscar Negrete. They have each been charged with one count of organized theft ring, conspiracy to commit theft, and two counts of theft.
