Troopers Find Explosives in Car in Esmeralda County

From Nevada Highway Patrol

On Tuesday September 17, 2013 at approximately 6:40 am, Deputies from Esmeralda County were dispatched onto US 95 from a call of a road rage incident. When Deputies made a traffic stop near the Esmeralda County Courthouse, they made contact with the vehicle and its occupants who were detained and questioned. When an inventory of the vehicle was conducted, a rifle and an undisclosed amount of explosives were found.

US 95 was then closed to protect the safety of the public. US 95 traffic has been diverted through the side streets of Goldfield. The Las Vegas Metro Police Bomb Squad was requested and arrived on scene at approximately 1120 am to assist with the explosives that were found. The Esmeralda Courthouse, Esmeralda Co. Dispatch and other buildings within a 1500 ft radius of the vehicle with explosives were evacuated. The highway remains closed at this time and no word on when it will re-open.
