Local Red Cross Volunteers to Help Colorado Flooding Victims

Posted: Updated:

The Northern Nevada Chapter of the Red Cross is sending four volunteers to help with the flooding in Colorado which has killed at least four people.

"Colorado's so close and we certainly want to help them and if we needed anything here we know they would support us too," says Carli Epstein.

The first got to the state on Sunday. Three more will arriving Tuesday and expect to be there two or three weeks.

Some Colorado residents who have been isolated for days are using white sheets, mirrors and signal fires to flag down rescue helicopters.

Officials say the epic storms that dumped nearly a foot and a half of rain are some of the worst in more than a century.

"Some areas of Larimer experienced a 100-year flood, other areas experienced a 1,000-year flood."

Colorado officials say they won't be able to fully assess all the damage until rescue efforts are complete, and the floodwaters recede.
